A 32-strong business delegation from the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and the Philippines-Malaysia Business Council (PMBC), led by PCCI Pres. Consul Enunina Mangio and PMBC Co-Chair Ms. Rhoda Castro-Caliwara, is currently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for a multi-day mission aimed at deepening economic cooperation between the Philippines and Malaysia.
On October 8, 2025, the PCCI-PMBC delegates attended the opening of the 9th Selangor ASEAN Business Conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre — a premier regional platform for dialogue on trade, innovation, and sustainable economic growth across Southeast Asia.
The mission underscores the shared commitment of both nations to strengthen business-to-business linkages, explore strategic partnerships, and create inclusive opportunities that advance mutual prosperity. Through active engagement in key ASEAN forums and direct dialogue with Malaysian counterparts, the delegation aims to foster greater collaboration in areas such as trade, investment, digital transformation, and sustainable development.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), through its SDG Committee, successfully launched the first-ever SDG Effectiveness Summit at the Dusit Thani Hotel last September 11. The landmark event brought together business and government leaders, alongside development partners, to mobilize accelerated action toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
PCCI Vice President for Regional Affairs and Director for SDG Ms. Alegria S. Limjoco set the tone, highlighting the summit's role in translating complex global goals into simple, actionable strategies for businesses. This sentiment was echoed by PCCI Vice President for International Affairs Mr. Jude Aguilar and UN Resident Coordinator Mr. Arnaud Peral, who underscored the urgent need for concrete action with only five years left until the 2030 deadline. They emphasized that the SDGs are not just a global agenda but a core business strategy for building resilient communities and a stable economy.
The program provided a comprehensive view, from the national direction to grassroots practices. Department of Economy, Planning, and Development Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon reported on the Philippines' progress, affirming the private sector's role as a catalyst for achieving SDG targets. This was complemented by real-world examples from PCCI leaders across Luzon, Visayas, and NCR, who shared tangible best practices from businesses of all sizes.
A key outcome was the signing of a landmark PCCI Call to Action, a multistakeholder pledge with major organizations including the Employers Confederation of the Philippines, PHILEXPORT, the Philippine Franchise Association, and the Philippine Retailers Association. This commitment reinforces a collective drive to integrate and monitor practical SDG interventions, ensuring inclusivity and targeted impact are at the core of business growth.
The event was made possible through the support of PHILEXPORT, Philippine Franchise Association, Phoenix Publishing House, Coolaire Consolidated Inc., Gruppo EMS, UNDP Philippines, and Alay Buhay Community Development Foundation, demonstrating how multisectoral partnerships can accelerate our collective journey toward the Sustainable Development Goals.

PCCI Mobilizes Business Sector for Landmark SDG Effectiveness Summit 

PCCI President, Consul Enunina V. Mangio, graced the celebration of Korea’s National Foundation Day earlier at the Grand Hyatt Hotel Manila, Bonifacio Global City, Makati City. The event was hosted by the South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Lee Sang-Hwa.&nbsp;
The Philippines and the Republic of Korea maintain a strong partnership and continue to cooperate towards enhancing economic relationship in untapped and emerging priority sectors. In December 2024, the Philippines and South Korea signed a bilateral agreement aimed at increasing trade volume and creating new business opportunities between the two countries.
Pres. Mangio was joined by PCCI Chairman George T. Barcelon, PCCI Director for Agriculture William S. Co, PCCI Secretary General Ruben Pascual, and members of the Philippines-Korea Business Council.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – North Luzon (PCCI–North Luzon) gathered more than a hundred business leaders, local chamber presidents across North Luzon, and agriculture champions at its 3rd General Membership Meeting held on September 30, 2025 in Angeles City, Pampanga. The event was hosted by the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry under the leadership of President Atty. Paul Yusi.
With the theme “Agriculture Resilience for Food Security, Livelihood Protection, and Farmer Empowerment,” the meeting focused on the urgent challenges and opportunities facing North Luzon’s agriculture sector.
The program opened with inspiring messages from Area Vice President for North Luzon Atty. Maria Amalia Tiglao-Cayanan and Vice President for Membership and Regional Affairs and Director for SDGs Ms. Alegria Sibal-Limjoco, who both emphasized agriculture’s central role in driving inclusive growth and regional development.
Two major discussions defined the afternoon. SDG Committee Chairman Mr. Joel Ryan E. Tugade spoke on empowering North Luzon farmers through value chains, agritech, and market linkages, underscoring the need for partnerships on facilities, enhanced government service delivery with multilateral expertise, and climate resilient agri food systems through proper crop planting. Agriculture Committee Chairman Mr. Paul Cuyegkeng highlighted the importance of climate-smart agriculture to safeguard food security and rural livelihoods, stressing the need to mitigate and adapt to risks through scientific methods to increase yield and returns for both companies and farmers.
Both discussions tied directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reaffirming commitments to end hunger, promote agri-innovation, ensure decent work, and strengthen resilience against climate change.
The event also brought together PCCI North Luzon’s Regional Governors: Ms. Cristina Tuzon (Region III), Mr. Deimler Cuyan (CAR), and Mr. Pancrasio Nisce (Region I) — further strengthening the collective resolve to empower farmers, protect livelihoods, and build a more sustainable future for agriculture in the region.

PCCI Pres. Consul Enunina Mangio said that the Philippines-Taiwan Industrial Collaboration Summit has been held for several years now, reflecting the Philippines’ and Taiwan’s mutual commitment in strengthening institutional linkages and expanding the scope of collaboration.&nbsp;
Highlighting Taiwan’s large manufacturing base, supply chain system, and technological expertise, Mr. Clement Yang, Chairperson of the Philippines Affairs Committee of the
Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI), said that these strengths can best be paired with the Philippines’ vibrant digital ecosystem, human capacity, and dynamic market.
On the other hand, government counterparts–Usec. Allan Gepty, Undersecretary for the Department of Trade and Industry - International Trade Group, and Ms. Cynthia Kang, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs Taiwan echoed each other's message that the economic ties of the Philippines and Taiwan have been continuously growing, with bilateral trade in 2024 totaling 6.7 billion USD, both countries have consistently ranked among each other’s top trading counterparts.
A Cooperation Memorandum Announcement was also signed between the Chung -Hua Institution for Economic Research, the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association, the Ateneo Center for Economic Research and Development, and the Semiconductor and Electronic Industries in the Philippines. The memorandum aims to jointly promote green manufacturing and sustainable supply chains through technical exchanges, talent cultivation, and industrial linkage in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation and competitiveness.

Joining Pres. Mangio is PCCI Chairman for Science and Technology Ferdinand Ferrer. On the sidelines of the meeting, Pres. Mangio extended a formal invitation to Ambassador Burgos to attend the 51st Philippine Business Conference and Expo (PBC&amp;E) on 20-21 October 2025 at the SMX Convention Center Manila.

Connectivity is key to digital transformation - PCCI
Connectivity is the foundation of any meaningful and inclusive digital transformation, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), country’s the largest business organization said as it sets to present the 51st Philippine Business Conference (PBC&amp;E) with the theme, “The Future is Now: Unleash the Power of Digital Transformation.”&nbsp;
Even as the Philippines has made strides in digital transformation with rapid growth in digital payments, e-commerce platforms, and online public services, the country remains behind its Southeast Asian neighbors in critical dimensions of digital adoption, including infrastructure, business digitization, e-government maturity, and tech talent development, PCCI observed.
As the ASEAN region accelerates toward a digital economy, the Philippines must take decisive action to close the digital gap or risk being left further behind, PCCI urged.
For digital leap to happen, PCCI is calling for a robust and inclusive digital infrastructure.
“Broadband access, especially in rural and underserved areas, must be prioritized. If we are to achieve inclusive and sustained growth, local governments, schools, enterprises, operating in rural areas must have the same level of access and reliability as their urban counterparts. And to be competitive, cost and speed must be equivalent or even better than those of our neighbors in ASEAN who are already years ahead of us in MSME digitization, e-commerce adoption, and digital government services,” PCCI President Consul Enunina Mangio said.
PCCI cited recent legislative and policy reforms and initiatives such as the amendments to the Public Service Act, SIM Card Registration Law, the Digital Transformation Roadmap and the National Fiber Backbone as steps in the right direction. But more must be done.
“Connectivity must be treated as critical infrastructure, on par with roads, energy, and ports,” Dennis Anthony H. Uy, PCCI’s Director for ICT stressed, adding “There should be more strategic investment in both fixed and mobile broadband networks especially in underserved regions to enable more Filipinos and businesses to participate in the digital economy.”
For investments to come in, PCCI called on the country’s policymakers to:
• Expand last mile connectivity in remote areas by directing investment towards underserved areas and critical backbone infrastructure, leveraging public-private partnerships (PPPs).
• Accelerate infrastructure rollout by streamlining permitting processes for telecom infrastructure (towers, fiber ducts), enforcing infrastructure sharing policies, and prioritizing national broadband initiatives in the process;
• Foster competition and affordability by implementing policies and spectrum management strategies (to accelerate 5G rollout);
• Support community networks and localized digital hubs;
• Provide incentives for infrastructure sharing and open access models.
“Open, affordable, and nationwide connectivity will not just future-proof our economy, it will empower every Filipino to take part in that future starting today,” Uy, who is also the chairman of the 51st PBC&amp;E said as he invited the public to the conference taking place on October 20-21 at the SMX Convention Center.
