Anchored on the theme “Reinforcing Trust, Integration, and Sustainability in the East Asia Economic Architecture,” the meeting brings together business leaders and council members to deliberate on regional economic integration, trade and investment priorities, digital transformation, and updates on the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) across member economies.
The meeting likewise marks the formal handover of the EABC Chairmanship from Malaysia and China to the Philippines and Japan for 2026, with Mr. Jay Y. Yuvallos assuming the role of EABC Chair and Mr. Tetsuya Matsuoka as EABC Co-Chair.
To advance RCEP utilization, the group is looking into intensifying capacity building through RCEP helpdesks and playbooks.
"More than awareness, it's really the handholding of smaller companies. We're looking on drilling down on advisory services and clinics for the purpose of expanding market access. RCEP is not just about exports, but benefiting from participation in regional value chains." Yuvallos said.
Four priority areas were outlined for the year including: enhancing RCEP utilization and regional value chain integration; advancing sustainability and the circular economy; promoting digital connectivity; and strengthening good governance to support increased and higher-quality foreign direct investment.
EABC is composed of senior business leaders from ASEAN, China, Japan, and Republic of Korea. The council represents the private sector and provide recommendations that shape ASEAN Plus Three economic cooperation.
