In a panel discussion titled: “Perspectives on Upgrading Quality for Philippines’ Export Competitiveness”. Mr. Ferrer recognized the capacity of the country’s semiconductor industry to comply with both mandatory and voluntary standards, due to its already existing presence in global value chains. However, he also emphasized that such a level of readiness may not be the case for smaller enterprises.&nbsp;
“Our biggest challenge in the chamber is educating them to believe that they have to meet these standards or else: No compliance, no sales.“ he said.
In this context, he highlighted the ongoing free trade agreements (FTAs) negotiations like the Canada and EU FTAs which present significant opportunities for the Philippines to access more lucrative markets, and the role of Tatak Pinoy in certifying that Philippine products and services are credible and meet international standards.
The event primarily draws insights on World Development Report 2025 which highlights the vital role of strong NQI institutions in driving productivity, expanding market access, and supporting economic transformation, as well as lessons from Korea’s experience in building a robust and internationally recognized NQI system.
