Food for the Needy Program of the ADB

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Members, Fellow Advocates and Partners in Service,

We would like to get your support to the “food for the needy” program initiated by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The ADB, through Vice President for East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, Mr. Ahmed M. Saeed, reached out to PCCI to be one of the Bank’s partners in its initiative to provide essential food items to the poor and vulnerable populations of Metro Manila and Luzon.  This program aims to bridge the 4-week gap, while ADB is working with Government to set up cash transfer programs, which will be available in 4 weeks.  The program is closely coordinated with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for COVID-19.

The ADB is allocating an initial grant of $3 Mn to $5 Mn to fund essential food purchases.  To be able to reach a larger number of the poor and vulnerable, the ADB aims to raise this amount to $20 Mn through cash/in-kind support.

PCCI has been tapped as partner to provide operational support and better manage logistics and distribution.  This includes identifying suppliers and helping identify distribution areas using PCCI’s vast network of members and local chambers, who are working closely with the Local Government Units and local stakeholders.

To jumpstart the program, the ADB is sourcing suppliers of rice, coffee, sardines, corned beef, noodles, multivitamins and paracetamol.  It is also looking for suppliers of materials needed for the production of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Enterprises engaged in the manufacture or trade of the above-mentioned commdodities or who have have referrals for possible suppliers may please contact PCCI’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee through

Mr. Levin David Prudente at levin.prudente@philippinechamber.com and/or

Mr. Ruben Espinosa at ruben.espinosa@philippinechamber.com

with a copy to Committee Chair, Ms. Nora Lacuna at normine@gmail.com,

PCCI Secretary-General, Mr. Ruben J. Pascual at rubenjpascual@philippinechamber.com

and Ms. Nerissa Deluyon-Kasten at neri.kasten@philippinechamber.com

Let us help the ADB help those who do not have the ability to last the quarantine.

Thank you very much.
