| Asian SME Summit 09 to tackle SME policy issues |
![]() Bearing the theme “Public Private Partnership in SME Development through Capacity Building, Policy & Research” the Asian SME Summit 2009 will be held on August 7-8, 2009 at the BMICH Committee Room A, Colombo, Sri Lanka to enhance cooperation among ACD member countries and accelerate SME development in the region. It is organized by the Asia Corporation Dialog (ACD), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ministry Of Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion (MEDIP), Small and Medium Enterprise Developers (SMED), Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISl) and Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF). The conference will focus on SME policy related issues within national boundaries as well as co-operation among ACD countries. Policy interventions, best practices, facilitating different modes of SME networks and businesses across boundaries & removing barriers, strengthening entrepreneurial education, capacity building, research and development and reforms to enhance SME competitiveness. Key issues related to Intellectual Property rights for Technology Transfer to SMEs, financing, monitoring and evaluation will be addressed at the conference. In addition, the conference will work towards developing mechanisms for sharing knowledge and information among ACD countries. The ASIAN SME Summit will also conduct several workshops to discuss the status of the sector and to lay down strategies for boosting the development of the sector.
