Phils-India Bus. Council
The Philippines-India Business Council (PIBC) of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) actively promotes and facilitates trade and investments between the Philippines and India through the conduct of business meetings, seminars and forum in partnership with government agencies and other business organizations.

In pursuit of PIBC's paramount goal to bridge the gaps between the two countries, the Council proudly states its accomplishments for the year 2007.

Seminar on Doing Business with India III
In cooperation with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), the PIBC organized a seminar on “Doing Business with India III” on January 30, 2007 at the 8th Floor of Salcedo Towers, Makati City. Nearly seventy people attended.

The Rise of India and China as Economic Powers: Lessons for the Philippines
The lecture was organized by the PIBC, in cooperation with the Asia Society Philippines Foundation, Inc. on July 23, 2007 at the Bahia Room of Intercontinental Hotel, Makati City. Over sixty people attended.

RP-India Buyer-Seller Meet
The PIBC in cooperation with the Engineering Export Promotion Council (India) and the Embassy of the Republic of India, organized a Buyer-Seller Meet on September 19, 2007 at the Ballroom of Intercontinental Hotel. This was a whole day event with several exhibits and presentations made by both countries.

Business Meeting with Tamilnadu CCI delegation
One-on-one business meetings with the members of the Tamilnadu CCI delegation were conducted last September 20, 2007 at the Hyatt Hotel and Casino, Manila. This was in collaboration with the Indian Chamber of Commerce Philippines (ICCP) and the Embassy of the Republic of India.

Seminar on Doing Business with India IV with Special Focus on the Property Market
The PIBC in cooperation with the Expo and Conventions Promotions, Inc. (EPCI) organized a seminar on Doing Business with India IV on December 6, 2007 at the Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City.

For the year 2008, the PIBC will continue providing better and meaningful opportunities and to cultivate strong and closer commercial relations with the Indian business community. Similar activities will be organized tentatively schedule on the following dates:

February 11 – Electronics & IT sector
April 3 – Chemical and Pharmaceutical sector
June 25 – Educational sector
August 20 – Agriculture and Food Manufacturing
November 19 – Real Estate and Tourism


Welcome Reception and Forum on Philippines-India Renewable Energy Opportunities
The Philippine-India Business Council of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a Welcome Reception and Forum on Philippines-India Renewable Energy Opportunities last June 22, 2010 at the Peninsula Hotel Manila. Speakers that graced the event were Atty. Miguel Varela, Chairman Emeritus of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry(PCCI);  Amb. Francis Chua,President, PCCI; Amb. Yogendra Kumar, Indian Ambassador to the Philippines; Mr. Vince Perez, President &CEO of Altenergy; Mr. Olegario Serafica, President, Renewable Energy Association of the Philippines. And our most extinguished guest Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Minister of New and Renewable Energy Government of India. The master of ceremonies was no other that Mr. Raju Mandyan, Former Chairman Philippine-India Business Council.

PE firms invest $2 billion in Q4

Private equity (PE) firms invested US$ 2 billion during the quarter ended March 2010, the highest in the last six quarters, according to a study by Venture Intelligence, a research service focussed on private equity and merger and acquisition (M&A) transaction activity in India.

Foreign venture capitalist funds bet big on Rising India
Both domestic and foreign venture capital (VC) firms have evinced interest in investing in India owing to the pace of economic recovery and expected higher investment returns. Over 30 new VC funds have started putting money in start-ups across various sectors.

Sebi extends Asba to institutional investors
In line with its aim of improving the efficiency of the primary market, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has extended the ASBA (Application Supported by Blocked Amount) Facility to institutional investors. The new norm would be applicable for all public issues from May 1, 2010.
 
Govt launches new foreign investment policy document
With the aim of integrating all previous regulations on FDI into one consolidated document, the government has launched a new policy document which reflects the current policy framework on FDI, effective April 1, 2010.
