The Committee on Intellectual Property was created to help instill awareness on the important role of intellectual property rights in business development, trade and the flow of investment in the country. It seeks to promote more cooperation in the field of intellectual property between government institutions and members of the private sector. The Committee also recognizes that Intellectual property advocacy and protection is a key factor for economic growth and advancement, especially of SMEs.

The PCCI awarded the winners of the first Ambassador Alfredo M. Yao (AMY) Intellectual Property (IP) Innovation Awards last October 21, 2009 during the 35th Philippine Business Conference & Expo at the Manila Hotel. The IP Innovation Awards was organized by PCCI in cooperation with Intellectual Property Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology to promote IP culture and innovation among the Filipino people. Samuel Abrenilla won the National IP Innovation Category with his entry, the Moxtrak Dehydrator, which allows raw materials to dry but at the same time preserves its appearance, natural nutritional and overall properties at controllable levels of dryness suitable for different kind of applications like food, medicine, and industry materials.
