SME Development
The SME Development Division actively participates in the formulation and implementation of policies and programs, both in the national and regional levels, to improve the capabilities and competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises in the global market. The Division places particular emphasis on access to technology and information, access to credit financing, access to markets, human resource development, and access to market opportunities.

Invitation to an Executive Briefing on the EBESE Program for SMEs
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), in partnership with the ECOP Institute for Productivity and Competitiveness (EIPC) Foundation, invites executives/general managers and chief executive officers of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to an EXECUTIVE BRIEFING on the Big Enterprise Small Enterprise (EBESE) Productivity Improvement Program on November 13, 2009; 1:00 p.m. at the PCCI Board Room, 3/F ECC Bldg., 355 Gil Puyat Ave., Makati City.

EBESE is a productivity-based partnering program designed to develop and sustain a long-term mutually beneficial working relationship between the big enterprises and small to medium-scale enterprises in the Philippines. It is the first successful program in the Philippines that promotes synergistic convergence by forging vital partnership among all major stakeholders – industry and government, the big enterprises and their small and medium scale enterprise (SME) counterparts. Since 2004, EBESE has assisted a total of 175 EBESE beneficiaries from NCR, Regions III, IV and VII.

Asian SME Summit 09 to tackle SME policy issues

Bearing the theme “Public Private Partnership in SME Development through Capacity Building, Policy & Research” the Asian SME Summit 2009 will be held  on August 7-8, 2009 at the BMICH Committee Room A, Colombo, Sri Lanka to enhance cooperation among ACD member countries and accelerate SME development in the region. It is organized by the Asia Corporation Dialog (ACD), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), Ministry Of Enterprise Development & Investment Promotion (MEDIP), Small and Medium Enterprise Developers (SMED), Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka (FCCISl) and Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF).

The conference will focus on SME policy related issues within national boundaries as well as co-operation among ACD countries. Policy interventions, best practices, facilitating different modes of SME networks and businesses across boundaries & removing barriers, strengthening entrepreneurial education, capacity building, research and development and reforms to enhance SME competitiveness.

Business Matching Set to Improve SME in EU-EAGA
The EU-East ASEAN Growth Area Business and Technology Partnership, a Business Match-Making event, is set to happen on 16-19 November 2009 in Sarawak, Malaysia.
The project aims to improve the competitiveness of SMEs in both the EU and EAGA (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines - East ASEAN Growth Area.) regions via trade and investment linkages, technology transfer and cooperation, capacity building within the four(4) key priority sectors of Environment and Energy, Natural Resources (Forestry), Agriculture/ Aquaculture, and Ecotourism.

Magna Carta for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has signed on May 23, 2008  Republic Act No. 9501; An Act to Promote Entrepreneurship Strengthening Development and Assistance Programs to Micro, Small and Medium Scale  Enterprises, amending for the purpose of Republic  Act No. 6977, As Amended, Otherwise Known as  the “Magna Carta for Small Enterprises” and for other purposes.
