SERVICES SECTOR

Over the past years the services sector has shown sustained economic growth and accounted for 53.7% of the country's GDP making it the highest contributor compared to the industrial and agricultural sectors. The services sector also employs the highest percentage of the workforce of Philippines with at least 42 percent of the total labor force. The services sector has been the constant recipient of most of the country’s foreign direct investments. The development of the Services sector has wide economic implications particularly in contributing to employment generation and regional development.

PCCI Advocacy on Services Sector



The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) supports the promotion of a competitive and efficient services sector.

Given the unprecedented boom in the services sector, PCCI will continue to undertake initiatives towards the improved competitiveness of ICT, logistics and transportation subsectors. PCCI’s advocacy on these subsectors will focus on promoting regulatory framework and achievable strategies that:

· Build upon the subsectors’ successes and mitigate challenges;
· Increase communication and partnerships across stakeholder groups;
· Improve and accelerate service sector marketing;
· Are consistent with government policies

Objectives of the Services Sector

1. Serve as the private sector consultative body and government counterpart in developing and promoting the country’s globally-competitive services industries
2. Facilitate consultations, networking and alliance-building among stakeholders to come up with key understanding on services-related issues.
3. Help build institutional capacities to enhance and strengthen the involvement of stakeholders in services export promotion and trade negotiations.
4. Monitor developments that directly impact the sector’s development
5. Monitor key policy decisions and outline follow-up action as needed

Composition of the Sector

The Services Sector is headed by PCCI’s Vice President for Services. He is supported by the Chairpersons representing the following committees:

1. Transportation
2. Logistics
3. Information and Communications Technologies (ICT)

The Services Sector shall be composed of representatives of industry associations and companies in the services sector and other related stakeholders.
