Business Initiatives to Address Human Trafficking Issues Seen as an increasing global scourge affecting all sectors in society, human trafficking is an issue of labour rights and criminal justice that has severe impact in the economy. PCCI in partnership with the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) embarked on an initiative to advance corporate social responsibility through a meaningful participation in the economic and social empowerment of returned trafficked persons. The project made use of CSR as a primary strategy to reach out and engage the business sector in the global campaign against human trafficking. C. Big Enterprise and Small Enterprise Productivity Improvement Program A customer-supplier partnering program designed to engage large firms- customers (Big Enterprise) to assist in developing the productivity capacities of their SME-Suppliers (Small Enterprise), the Big Enterprise and Small Enterprise Productivity Improvement Program is expected to bring big and small enterprises together, learn useful concepts and best practices from each other and from other external experiences, and improve manufacturing systems, methods and techniques that are based on partnership through a systematic approach applied in the workplace. III. LIFE LONG LEARNING PROGRAMS One of the thrusts of PCCI CSR is to help alleviate the economic plight of the less privileged. Its program focuses on the provision of livelihood and skills development projects under the “life-long learning” program. This thrust found its rightful place in PCCI with the realization of a Memorandum of Agreement with the Gawad Kalinga (GK), an organization promoting the Filipino tradition of “Bayanihan Spirit”, volunteerism and cooperation to undertake the total development of families and communities considered the poorest of the poor and underprivileged. Adopting the GK Villa Paraiso in Paranaque City as the initial beneficiary of PCCI skills and livelihood training programs, PCCI in partnership with the Paranque Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Department of Science and Technology introduced series of training activities such as the Business Expense Savings Techniques (BEST) Game, paper weaving and meat processing trainings. This enables PCCI to meet the immediate needs in the area of tragedy through working with the PCCI Area Vice Presidents and Regional Governors. Disaster Rehabilitation and Livelihood Fund Drive In light of the recent calamity brought about by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng which resulted to massive flooding and destruction of properties particularly in the Luzon area, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) established a Disaster Rehabilitation and Livelihood Fund Drive Program to provide long-term reconstruction and livelihood projects in the severely affected areas.
