12/03/10 - The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the largest business organization in the country, is alarmed over the surge in sugar prices and calls on the government to intervene before the food export industry caves in. PCCI Vice President Roberto Amores said that the inadequate market supply of sugar may be due to the removal of the D Quedan sugar allocation which caused uncertainty amongst food processors and consumers and may have prompted hoarding.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the official voice of Philippine business, supports the House Bill introduced by Representatives Prospero Nograles and Abraham Mitra dubbed as “An Act Promoting Corporate Farming and Providing Incentives Thereof.”
PCCI believes that the house bill will give more meaning to the government’s programs and policies on ensuring food security in the country. Also, the bill will enable greater private sector participation in addressing food problems by ensuring sufficient food supply for employees.

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) lauds the Department of Agriculture (DA) for acting upon its proposals to post a moratorium on land conversion as a means to strengthen food security in the country. In a presentation before the delegates of the recently concluded National Food Summit in Clark, Pampanga, Mr. Roberto Amores, Vice President for Agriculture and Food Security of the PCCI, presented three recommendations that would help strengthen food security and increase agricultural productivity to Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
