Energy and Water Sector

The Energy and Water Sector maintains principal responsibility in contributing to policy decision-making/promotion of the following subsectors: energy resource exploration and development; power development; indigenous and alternative fuel, renewable energy resources, and water as utility

The Sector’s advocacies are focused on ensuring that the energy and water sectors are in step and able to respond to the needs of the growing economy.  Specifically, these are in:

a.       Security of energy resources

b.      Competitiveness of power rates

c.       Sustainability and reliability of power supply

d.      Efficient use of energy

e.      Competitiveness of water tariffs

f.        Sustainability of quality water supply

Cohesive Roadmap Needed to Address Mindanao Power Situation; Solution Must Focus on Both Supply and Resulting Cost – PCCI

Concerned over the shortage of power supply and the increasing frequency of blackouts in Mindanao, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) is calling on government to come up with integrated short- and long-term strategies to address the problem, ensure the growth potential and continued operation of enterprises and industries in the island and, avert serious unemployment and “lay offs”’

The PCCI, since 2008 and as late as 2011, has been ringing the alarm bell over this matter.

With the crisis now being felt island-wide, PCCI said it is critical that the situation be immediately addressed with a blend of strategies uniquely crafted for the island in order to draw and move larger economic activities in that part of the country. Read more...
