Agriculture and Food Security
The Agriculture and Food Security advocacies of PCCI are anchored on increasing the productivity of the Filipino farmer, boosting agricultural exports, and ensuring food on every table. The Committee works closely with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Trade and Industry to ensure that the private sector is represented in the consultations and has a voice in the decisions emanating from government.
The Sector is a member of the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries 2025 (PAF 2025) Task Force (PAF-TF) under the Congressional Oversight Committee on Agricultural and Fisheries Modernization (COCAFM). Under the PAF-TF, Vice President for Agriculture, Mr. Roberto Amores heads the fruits and vegetables sector.
The Philippines is looking to encourage the development of organic farming, seen as a niche agriculture sector ripe with opportunity for the country. With the proper support, organic farming could work to boost high-value agricultural exports as well as incomes in the agriculture sector, which currently employs more than 30% of the nation’s labour force.
